While readers are settling in at their favorite beaches and vacation spots cozy with a copy of one of the new summer books, the publishing industry is busy preparing for the fall and winter seasons. Last weekend, at Book Expo America, the publishing industry’s largest trade show, 36,000 people from around the world got a sneak preview of thousands of soon-to-be-released fall and winter books. The four-day event, held at the Javits Center in New York City, was filled with exciting educational sessions, new title releases and lots and lots book buying and selling.
It was a great time for all and lots of fun! My colleagues and I had a great time talking to book retailers, journalists, librarians and foreign publishers about our newest releases, Cerebrum 2007: Emerging Ideas in Brain Science and Best of the Brain from Scientific American, and soon-to-be-released Defining Right and Wrong in Brain Science: Essential Readings in Neuroethics and The Neuroscience of Fair Play: Why We (Usually) Follow the Golden Rule. It’s great to see familiar faces, from our printers to our distributors, as well as pick up a few “advance reader’s copies” for my own summer reading.
