Staying Sharp Upcoming Events

We have back-to-back weekends of Staying Sharp starting this Saturday, May 10, in Queens, New York, and then the following Saturday in Tallahassee, Florida. The forums are close to each other on the calendar, but will be quite far apart in audience.

The Staying Sharp this Saturday in Queens will be entirely in Mandarin—a first for the Staying Sharp program. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the town hall in Flushing, Queens—one of the largest and fastest growing ethnic Chinese neighborhoods in New York City and the United States. The program will include a discussion on the aging brain, memory, exercise, Alzheimer’s disease, and brain health and then a Q&A with the audience. The expert speakers will include Yinhsu Liu, ND, RD from the Naturopathic Wellness Center, Huanjuan (Serene) Nie, LMSW a social worker with the Alzheimer’s Association, Xiaoyan Hu, PhD from Weill Cornel Medical College, and Able Yuanxia Zhang, PhD the director of Able Psychology, P.C. We’ve had the Staying Sharp booklets translated into Mandarin and will distribute print copies at the forum. These booklets will also be available as PDFs online following the program.

In Tallahassee on Saturday, May 17, Staying Sharp—in English—will be at the Augustus B. Turnbull III Florida State Conference Center. The program includes a panel discussion from 10 am to 12 pm with Dana Alliance member and Staying Sharp veteran Patrick A. Griffth, MD, FAAN, as well as Katherin Snyder, RD, LD/N, CDE from the Tallahassee Memorial Bariatric and Diabetes Center, and DABI member Kenneth M. Heilman, MD, from the University of Florida College of Medicine. Reservations are highly recommended for this program; space is limited and these forums fill up fast. The AARP Florida website has a preview of the event as well. Register now by calling 1-877-926-8300 or online at

For more information on both events go to the Staying Sharp webpage. We hope to see you there!
