Organizing and promoting events is a wonderful way to promote Brain Awareness Week (BAW) in your community, but did you know that you can also submit a request for a BAW proclamation? Your local city and state official(s) may be receptive to issuing one in honor and in celebration of BAW. A proclamation is a “time-honored vehicle for securing government recognition of your program and further promotes BAW’s core mission: to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research.”
Of course there are many ways to celebrate BAW, and the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives offers suggestions targeted to different age groups–event and non-event opportunities. If you don’t have the resources for an in-person event, consider writing blogs and letters to editors of local newspapers, posting brain facts and articles on social media, and talking about the brain and BAW in your organization’s newsletter. Also consider becoming a brain advocate so that you can support brain research and outreach all year long!
Carry on with your BAW 2017 (March 13-19) planning and stay tuned for more planning tips and resources!
