Happy Brain Awareness Week!

logo_2019datesIt’s officially Brain Awareness Week starting today until Sunday, March 17, and people all over the world will be participating in activities about the brain! Every year, Brain Awareness Week partners organize events to educate people about the organ responsible for all that we are and all that we do.

Events are taking place in schools, concert halls, public plazas, cafes, museums, even on boats. If you are unable to make an in-person event, there are plenty of others in the virtual realm, including radio shows, television shows, and webinars. To find events in your area, visit the Brain Awareness Week Calendar of Events and search for your country and city (and state, if you are in the U.S.).

Currently, there are over 680 events on the calendar, and even more will be added throughout the week. Some events listed will take place later in the month as well. If you are based in the New York City area, check out the braiNY calendar, organized by the Greater NYC Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience.

Brain Awareness Week is the global campaign to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. It takes place every March to unite the efforts of partner organizations worldwide in a celebration of the brain, for people of all ages. Brain Awareness Week was established in 1996 as a modest effort, involving 160 organizations here in the United States. In the 24 years since its founding, the campaign has evolved into a global education initiative that has included the participation of more than 5,600 partners in 120 countries.

Show us how you celebrate the brain! Use the official Brain Awareness Week hashtags when you post photos and videos of campaign events and look for others using the hashtags #BrainWeek and #BrainAwarenessWeek across all social media platforms. We will be on Facebook (The Dana Foundation and Brain Awareness Week), Instagram, and Twitter. Also keep an eye out for #HealthyBrainChallenge and use this hashtag to support brain health all week long. Most importantly, remember to have fun!
