2018 Brain Awareness Video Contest

Thanks to a growing Brain Awareness Week partnership, we know there are many people out there who are passionate about educating the public about the brain. The Brain Awareness Video Contest, sponsored by the Society for Neuroscience (SfN), provides a wonderful opportunity to reach even more people, and to develop something unique and creative.

Due June 14, these videos must describe a neuroscience concept in less than five minutes, in a fun and captivating way. Anyone can enter! And on top of the sense of accomplishment, the top three winners and the People’s Choice winner receive cash prizes. The first-place winner will also receive a free trip to this year’s SfN annual meeting in sunny San Diego, where the video will be screened at the Brain Awareness Reception.

2017 Brain Awareness Video Contest

If you love crafting video ideas and have a passion for neuroscience, then the Brain Awareness Video Contest is just for you! The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) hosts the video challenge each year for those interested in developing a creative way to explain a brain-related concept. The best part is, anyone can enter!

Applicants have the opportunity to work directly with a member of SfN to sponsor and produce an educational video (the online entry form can only be submitted by a member of SfN). The first place winner will receive $1,000 and a trip to SfN’s 2017 annual neuroscience conference in Washington, DC, where the video will be presented. All submissions are due on June 15—so you have exactly one month left!

Last year’s first place price went to Akshay Balaji, a high school student from Virginia, for his video titled, “Hearing Red, Tasting Blue: When the Senses Mix!”

2014 Brain Awareness Video Winners

Last week, the Society for Neuroscience announced the winners of the 2014 Brain Awareness Video Contest. Leigha Phillips, with Helen Tang and Lily Benedict, snagged first place for their video on vision and illusion (a topic we’ll be exploring with AAAS in a public event on October 28 in DC—stay tuned!). Second and third place winners addressed brain lesions and brainbows (brain mapping with colors), respectively.

Last Day to Vote for Brain Awareness Week Video

Help the team behind your favorite Brain Awareness Week video win $500. Today marks the last day to vote for the People’s Choice award category of the Society for Neuroscience’s annual contest. Maybe you’ll be inspired to create your own video and enter the contest next year! Submissions are due June 12, 2014.
